Today was a busy, busy day! Connor and Lindsey had soccer camp from 9:00-10:30, karate from 10:30-11:15 and then a play date after karate...at my house! On top of that, Isaac had his one year check up at 10:00. Obviously, I needed help as there is just one of me. Mandi, aka Mrs. Ditty (the kids kindergarten teacher), picked the kids up from soccer camp and took them to karate for me. That was so nice of her and saved Wayne a trip home to help me out. She and I got to be pretty good friends throughout the course of the school year. I met up with her and the kids at karate when we were done at the doctor. Then her and her son, Ty, and another family from karate all came over and had lunch and played until about 3:45. It was a fun time talking with the other moms while the kids played. Isaac slept for about 2 hours, so it was good girl time.
Isaac's one year check up went okay. He weighed 22 pounds 8 ounces, which is up from 22 pounds at his 9 month check up. He was 31 inches long, which is just over an inch from his last doctor visit. The doctor did have one concern about his head circumference. We had troubles with this last time too. At his 9 month check up, they measured his head many times and kept getting the same measurement as at his 6 month check up. After 3 nurses, 1 doctor and 3 tape measures...they were finally able to get it to measure from 17 cm to 18.5 cm. Well, today, it was a similar situation. His head was only measuring 18 cm, which is smaller than the last visit (which isn't good) and only 1 cm larger than 6 months ago (which is not good). 2 nurses, 1 doctor and 2 tape measures all confirmed 18 cm. So, the doctor wants to see him again in 6 weeks for another measurement. If she's not happy with the measurement, she will be sending him for a CAT scan.
Apparently, the concern is that his soft spot opening is very small, at least from what she can tell through feeling it from the outside. The soft spot isn't supposed to close until closer to age 2 because of the rapid growth of the brain. So, I guess her concern is that his is closing too soon. This would explain the head measurements remaining the same or going down. I'm not alarmed about it at this point because she said his head is perfectly proportioned at this time, so she isn't extremely worried. But, she said it is definitely something we need to recheck soon and keep an eye on. I'll keep you posted. He goes back to the doctor on August 8th.
