What a day!

Ever have one of those nights were you just can't fall asleep...even when you are really tired? I have them all the time. I swear I have the worst insomnia. So, I finally fell asleep about 11:30 last night...even though I went to bed at 8:40. Wayne isn't feeling good so we went to bed early. I read until about 9:30 and then called it a night and turned off the lights. I laid there tossing and turning for what seemed like an eternity before nodding off. Well, at 12:30, Isaac woke up screaming. I have no idea why, but when I went in there he seemed like he was just wanting to get up. Well...we can't do that. I told him it was "night night", which he understands, and put him back to bed. He cried, but stopped after a few minutes and went back to sleep. Of course, I couldn't get asleep again, so I was probably up another hour or so. I woke up before the alarm went off at 6 because I'm used to Isaac getting up between 5:30 - 6:00. I got up and got some stuff done around the house before any kids woke up, so that was nice.

Isaac slept until 7, which is really late for him. I thought it may be a good day to get some shopping done since he may not need a morning nap due to sleeping a little later. So, I got the kids ready for school and told them I'd drive them to school today which made them very happy. I got ready, got Isaac fed and dressed and we dropped the kids off at school. We headed to Walmart to buy a birthday gift for a party Connor and Lindsey are going to in a few weeks. Then, we drove the 45 minutes to the Outlet Malls. Isaac was in the best mood when we got there. They had music on outside, and he was walking the sidewalks and he kept stopping to dance. I wish I had the camcorder...it was adorable. People were stopping to watch him...what a cutie.

His mood spiraled downhill very fast after we started shopping. I made it to Stride Rite to get Connor some new shoes and then we headed to the Gap to buy a few fall things for all the kids. UGH...those ladies at the Gap were probably rejoicing by the time we left. We were only there about 30 minutes, but he was a total nightmare by the end.

By now, It was a little after 11:00, so I thought maybe he was just hungry. He usually eats an early lunch because he eats breakfast at 6:00 most days. We were 45 minutes from home, so I drove over to McDonalds and ordered some lunch. He started eating and then suddenly just fell to pieces. He was screaming so loud that everyone was staring at us. Seriously, he was just chewing a fry and started to bawl. Then, he had himself so worked up that when he took a bite of chicken, he started gagging and chocking and I had to pull him out of the highchair and pat on his back. It was a terrible, terrible scene. I was humiliated as everyone was looking at us. I could tell people were giving me that "bad mom" stare. Those of you who know me well, know that I am very in tune with my kids schedules and needs and I'm not one of those moms who runs their kids ragged and skips naps. By now, he was totally red and swollen in the face from crying so much. I realized hunger was not his reason for being so fussy since he barely touched his lunch and was just continue to cry and cry. So, I through both of our uneaten lunches on the tray and asked the gentleman sitting next to us if he would mind throwing it all away. He was very kind and understood that I had my hands full at his point with my screaming son. I seriously thought I may get thrown out of McDonalds at this point. So, we went to the car and he totally settled down. A few minutes down the road he was sound asleep and has been asleep for the past 2.5 hours.

I'm still not sure the reason for his being so upset. I'm wondering if he is teething again. He has all his molars in now, but they aren't completely through. But, they haven't been bothering him at all for weeks. However, he's due to get his eye teeth anytime, so that could be it. I'm going to inspect his mouth later.

On another note: Connor and Lindsey had their first soccer game last Saturday. They lost 2-0, but had a great time. The coach, AKA Wayne, took the loss a little harder. I'll post pictures soon. My camera is still in Wayne's truck, so I'll have to remember to get it out.
