Connor had his palate spreader put on today. He did awesome! I'm very proud of how brave he was. At first, his speech was extremely slurred, but I'm amazed at how far it's come throughout the day today. His mouth is starting to get sore this afternoon, so he's taking Motrin for that. I hope it doesn't get too painful for him.
During the appointment we heard more about just how small his mouth is...obviously these people don't live with him...LOL! Anyway, they barely had equipment that they could use on him because of his narrow jaw. But, they managed to work it all out. I'm extremely impressed with his orthodontists office. They are on time, friendly and really do there best to put the kids and parents at ease. The worst part for Connor is the list of foods he is unable to eat for the next 8 months. He's mostly bummed about the lack of fruit snacks and popcorn. He's on soft foods for the next few days until this initial discomfort has passed.
I have to turn the key to the spreader every other day, so I hope I'm able to do that without trouble. I only practiced once today because we couldn't turn it too many times today since it was day 1. The more I practiced today, the more he would pay for it this afternoon, so I acted a lot more confident than I really feel. They told me that if I have trouble on Wednesday to bring him into the office and we would go through it again until I felt more at ease.
Lindsey got a haircut today. For the first time ever, I made her decide what to do with her hair. I've always taken her opinion and mine and had them do what I thought was best. She's been wanting to style her hair more herself lately, so I thought she should decide what she wanted to do with it today...trim, cut, big cut. She took a poll from just about every family member...most of which told her to keep it long...and decided she wanted it cut off short. She cut about 6 inches off and I love it. I've always been a fan of keeping her hair shorter because I think it looks better on her, so I'm happy. She loves it too, so I'm glad she went short. Here is a picture.
