Finally - An Update

Sorry...I've been a lazy blogger lately! With 3 kids home for the summer, we are trying to get out of the house as much as possible with trips to the library, movies, pool, etc... We're keeping busy, but it's been a fun summer so far. The only major bummer has been Isaac. He came down with a terrible virus this past week. On Wednesday and Thursday he had a low grade fever, which is nothing for him. That's almost a regular occasion for some reason?? On Friday, he woke up with a temp of 103.7 and thrashing about in pain. He kept crying "my belly hurts really bad." I threw him in the car and took him to prompt care. They did tons of tests and the only thing that came back positive was that he had blood in his urine. However, shortly after peeing in the cup, he calmed down and declared that he was "all better." We're not sure what happened. I suspect maybe he passed a kidney stone as we have a family history on my side of toddlers with kidney stones. I'm not positive that is what happened, just my best guess. He was supposed to have a kidney ultrasound on Monday, but I cancelled it due to this virus he had.

Starting Friday night, Isaac started complaining that his mouth really hurt. He still had a super high fever too. By Saturday, he was hysterical about his mouth hurting. We were alternating motrin and tylenol for his high fevers, but that just wasn't enough. I had looked in his mouth a million times and nothing stood out to me. Finally on Saturday night, I looked in his throat and could finally realize why he was so upset. It looked awful!! On Sunday morning we loaded back into the car and headed off to prompt care. His strep test was negative, it was just a virus and the doctor said he had throat ulcers. Yuck. It just had to run it's course.

I spent most of Sunday crying along with Isaac and on Sunday night decided I just couldn't take it anymore. Yes, he had a virus that needed to run its course, but did he have to be miserable??? We headed to the pediatric after hours and they gave him a prescription for Tylenol with Codeine. It's been rough getting him to take it, but it has truly been a lifesaver...that stuff really helped with his pain!!

So, now it's Wednesday again. He slept all night last night for the first time in a week. He woke up fever free for the first time in a week. He's still complaining of his "mouth" aka throat hurting, so we're still doing motrin, but he is complaining less each day.

The best thing is....we leave for the beach in 3 days and I really feel like I need and deserve a nice vacation!!! Let's just hope and pray that no one else comes down with this while we're gone.
