Barbados was okay. I'd say that it seemed a common consensus among everyone on the cruise that it was the least favorite port that we visited. I heard from someone on board that the north side of the island was very nice, but we spent the entire day on the south side which seemed very run down. We chose to go on an excursion to an Ocean Park and then to the beach. The park was a bit disappointing. It seemed very run down. The beach was great, though. We had a wonderful tour guide who told us lots of local info. On the Island of Barbados, there is 1 car for every 2 people. They have WAY too many cars there. Also, many people there build houses on rented land and if they want to move, they take their houses with them. If the house is on a permanent foundation, that means the person owns the land. We also saw a funeral parlor that is also a taxi service. The tour guide joked that they will drive you whether your dead or alive.
When we got back from our excursion, we changed, ate lunch and headed into downtown for a bit of sightseeing and shopping. We got back in plenty of time for all aboard and heard that there was a family that almost didn't make it back in time. Apparently they were running down the pier as they were putting up the gate. They are serious when they say that they don't wait for you. We swam on the boat for the remainder of the afternoon.
After dinner, we attended an ice show. It was wonderful. The ice skating rink wasn't very large, but I was amazed that they'd put an ice rink on a cruise ship. After the show, we went to a Love & Marriage game show that was similar to the Newlywed Game. It was pretty funny.
