It's my birthday...Happy Birthday to ME!! I'm old...34. Oh well, this year isn't too bad. Next year, I dread...mid 30's...officially!! The kids sang to me this morning. It was cute. We went out to dinner last night to celebrate. We went to my favorite Mexican place here in town as we were limited on time. Our weeknights are so hectic during the school year. I don't think we'll do anything special tonight since Connor has football.
Can I spend a minute of my birthday to whine? I hate 3rd grade. It's amazing how much work the kids have to do. Projects at home, tests each week, homework at night. It's not a ton of stuff to do, but some nights are so crazy! What bothers me the most is the lack of communication on the part of the teachers. Lindsey, who is my more responsible student, came home last night saying she had an English test to study for, but she didn't know when the test was or what it was on??!!??!! So, I had to call her teacher, who said she should have written it on her assignment sheet. I told her what Lindsey told me which was "her bus was called first and she didn't have time to get her assignments wrote down." Her teacher says "oh yeah, some kids didn't have time." and then proceeded to tell me what the test was covering. I was annoyed. Okay, vent over.

hmmm. shouldn't the teacher figure out a better system then so that the kids have time?
I emailed Meg's teacher and she told me that all they are required to do is study for spelling and science at home and everything else is covered at school. Yeah, well then WHY is Megan missing things on her reading tests???
Well, I have to admit that when Michelle was in 3rd grade the teachers sent home a paper each week to the parents stating what was expected of the student for that week for assignments and tests. Seems to me that writing one paper and copying it for all the students would be easier on all parents. It certainly helped our busy schedule at that time.
I would MUCH rather if the teacher would send home a paper every Monday stating what tests/assignments are going to be done that week. Not having the kids write it down that day. Today, Lindsey wrote down on her assignment sheet for English "test." She wrote that today, for a test today. So, had she not mentioned last night that she had a test today, I would have never known. I'M TOTALLY ANNOYED WITH THIS SYSTEM!! Especially trying to keep up with the schedule of 2 different classes.
